UCSF Global Health Group’s Malaria Elimination Initiative (MEI)

Cara Smith Gueye

Cara Smith Gueye, MPH, is a Senior Program Manager at the UCSF Global Health Group's Malaria Elimination Initiative (MEI). Cara manages the regional malaria elimination work of MEI, with a specific focus on technical and programmatic support to the Joint-Secretariat of the Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network, or APMEN, and support for the Secretariat of the Elimination 8 (E8) initiative in Southern Africa. She also coordinates the APMEN Surveillance and Response Working Group. She has worked with the Global Health Group since 2008, and during that time she led the case study series collaboration with the WHO Global Malaria Programme.

Prior to joining the Global Health Group, Cara spent two years with an environmental NGO in California and four years in Cote d'Ivoire and Madagascar, first as a Peace Corps Volunteer then in the regional office supporting a maternal and child health initiative.

She has an MPH from UC Berkeley and a BA in English and Environmental Studies from UCLA.
