Shrinking the Malaria Map

UCSF Global Health Group’s Malaria Elimination Initiative (MEI)

Elodie Vajda

I’m a French-American raised in San Francisco, CA. I graduated from McGill University (Montreal, QC) with an MSc in Entomology, after which I left the snowy North for sunny Australia. At the University of Sydney, I completed a Master’s in International Public Health. Through this program, I developed a keen interest for public health entomology.

After graduating from Sydney, I moved to Guam to take up the job as regional entomologist for the Zika Emergency and Preparedness project carried out across the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands with Pacific Islands Health Officers Association/CDC. In a (coco)nut shell, my life on Guam was shared between looking for Aedes in tires, and snorkeling.

After the Zika Response, I joined MEI’s Vector Control team as consultant entomologist. I provide on-site and remote technical and program coordination support to budding entomological surveillance programs in both Panama and Namibia. I’m excited to be joining the MEI team as staff member in 2019!
